Goldhutgasse

The Lane of the Golden Hat  ran from the so-called "Five Finger Square" behind St. Nikolai's Church to the Old Market Street.  Since the 17th Century it was named for the corner house "Zum Goldenen Hut" (of the Golden Hat).  In the Middle Ages, it was called Schuhgasse, or Shoe Lane, since it was the traditional quarter of the cobblers.  Enlargement

Die Goldhutgasse führt vom sogenannten Fünffingerplätzchen hinter der Nikolaikirche nach dem alten Markt. Seit dem 17. Jh. benannt nach dem dort gelegenen Eckhaus "Zum goldenen Hut"; im Mittelalter nannte man sie Schuhgasse, weil hier das Quartier der Holzschuhmacher war.  Vergrößerung
