The little romanesque portals are among the most important features of the building. They were progressive in their ornamentation but a little behind the times in the figural work. The ornamentation is related to that of the concurrent French early gothic. The same types of decoration can be found on the Frankfurt cathedral, as well as the Western building of the Mainz cathedral and St. Peter's Church in Gelnhausen.
The portals withstood all the wars and are among the oldest in Frankfurt
Die kleine romanische Portale sind sehr beachtenswerte Leistungen. Sie sind fortschrittlich in der Ornamentik, aber rückständig im Figürlichen. Die Ornamentik ist von der gleichzeitigen französischen Frühgotik abhängig. Auch am Dom, am Westbau des Mainzer Domes von 1219, und bei St. Peter in Gelnhausen (um 1220) kommen die gleichen Formen vor.
Die Portale überstanden alle Kriege und gehören zu den ältesten in Frankfurt.
